In 2009, I was hired as one of the first motion designers on the core team responsible for Microsoft’s Metro Design Language.
At that time, Microsoft was rapidly evolving to establish a foothold in the modern smartphone market, recognizing the need to shed its past and reinvent itself as a competitive force. This led to the creation of a groundbreaking smartphone interface featuring a 4x2 layout of solid-colored live tiles.
Working on the first version of this product was a rewarding experience, especially in designing the iconic live tiles that became central to the start screen. The start screen functioned as a dashboard, emphasizing a glance-and-go philosophy that allowed users to quickly scan the tiles and dive straight into their most important apps.
In addition to live tiles, I designed the motion for email, maps, messaging, notifications, search, and keyboard. This is a reel I put together that showcases my contributions to the Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango" release.
