Napster, the pioneering file-sharing service which launched in 1999 officially became part of Rhapsody in 2011. In the following years, Rhapsody phased out their core brand in favor of elevating Napster and worked with Tectonic on an engagement to investigate demographics, brand direction, and UX design solutions for their mobile app. As the creative director of motion design, I worked with a team of designers to look at ways we could push the boundaries of current design conventions to appeal to a younger demographic. The work we delivered was heavily inspired by collage and 2D stop motion animation and was a departure from the skeuomorphism trends that were dominant at the time.
